Privacy Policy
Last updated: 10 August 2026
ToneToolkit is a browser-based audio toolkit. We designed it so that the privacy story is short: your audio never leaves your device.
What we do not collect
- We do not upload any audio file you process, nor any sound you generate.
- We do not store, scan, or transmit your microphone input. The mic test and the instrument tuner read your microphone to show a live level or pitch; the audio is analyzed in your browser and is never sent anywhere or saved. If you use the record button in the mic test, that clip is held in your browser's memory so you can play it back, is never transmitted, and is discarded when you record again or leave the page.
- We do not require an account, a login, or any personal information to use the tools.
- We do not run analytics, page-view counting, error reporting, advertising, or any other third-party tracking script.
All audio work - generating tones and noise, the metronome, the tuner, the hearing and speaker tests, and the volume / pitch / time effects - runs locally in your browser using the Web Audio API. Files you select and microphone input stay in your browser's memory and are discarded when you close the tab or reset the tool.
What we do collect
Nothing on our servers beyond the request log any web server writes: the requesting IP address, the time, the page requested, and the user agent your browser sends. We use those entries only to operate and secure the site. We do not build profiles from them and we do not sell, share, or rent them.
Everything else the site remembers is stored by your browser, on your device, in local storage:
- Theme - whether you chose light, dark, or system.
- Pinned tools - the tools you starred on the dashboard.
- Recently used tools - the last few tools you opened, and when.
- Global volume - the master volume level you set in the menu.
- Tool settings - the last settings you used in a tool, such as frequency, waveform, metronome tempo, or noise color, so the tool opens the way you left it.
- Install prompt state - how many tools you have used and whether you dismissed the "install this app" prompt, so it is not shown again.
These entries stay in your browser. They are never sent to us and we cannot read them.
Cookies
This site sets no cookies. There is no cookie banner and no cookie settings panel, because there is nothing to consent to.
Clearing your local data
- The dashboard has a Clear local history button that removes the pinned and recently used tool lists and the saved tool settings.
- Clearing site data for this site in your browser settings removes every entry listed above, including the theme and volume preferences.
- A private or incognito window discards all of it when you close the window.
Microphone permission
The mic test and instrument tuner ask your browser for microphone access. You can grant or deny this per the browser's own prompt, and revoke it at any time in your browser settings. We only access the microphone while one of those tools is actively running.
Your rights
Because we do not hold your audio or personal data on our servers, there is nothing for us to delete on request. If you believe we have collected information about you and would like clarification, contact us using the address below.
Changes to this policy
We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when we change anything substantive. We will not retroactively reduce the privacy guarantees described above without making the change clearly visible on this page first.
